Celestial Events has made history by launching Australia’s first dedicated Dungeons & Dragons (DND) playing platform for fantasy book lovers. Designed for women (and men!), the platform specifically caters to new players, offering a safe and inclusive space to learn and enjoy the magic of DND. Whether you're an introvert looking to step into a fantasy world from the comfort of home or a seasoned player seeking a committed group, Celestial DND offers something for everyone.
The Benefits of Role-Playing Games
Role-playing games like DND are increasingly recognised for their mental health benefits. A recent Australian article highlighted how these games reduce stress and improve social skills, particularly for those who may feel isolated.
“Role-playing games provide a structured environment for social interaction, creativity, and problem-solving, which can be incredibly therapeutic,” noted Dr. Louise Chapman, a clinical psychologist, in The Australian on 12 March 2024.
For introverted or shy players, Celestial DND provides an opportunity to play with cameras on or off, offering the flexibility to engage in a way that feels most comfortable. The platform’s focus on small group sessions—five players per game—ensures a personal and welcoming experience.
Expert Game Masters and Unique Campaigns
Celestial Events has brought together a team of handpicked Game Masters (GMs) with a combined experience of over 100 years of gameplay. These GMs are not only experts in storytelling but also skilled in creating inclusive environments where every player feels valued.
The campaigns themselves are something special. Australian author LK Shear has crafted a fae-inspired six-month campaign called Seasons of Power and a shorter “one-shot” adventure for those wanting a taste of DND without long-term commitment. Each game is enhanced by original, AI-free artwork created by talented Australian DND artists.
Games are played fortnightly, with sessions available every evening and multiple times on weekends. Players are matched with GMs from their state, ensuring easy scheduling and a sense of local connection. To add an extra touch of magic, campaign players receive welcome packs in the mail, bringing a tangible element to the fantasy experience.
A Safe Space for Connection
Celestial Events is already well-known for creating inclusive spaces for fantasy book lovers. In 2024 alone, nearly 3,000 attendees participated in Celestial’s events, ranging from introverted book enthusiasts to extroverted cosplayers aged 18 to 77.
Now, Celestial DND offers a year-round opportunity to connect with others. The platform addresses a growing concern about social isolation, particularly in the age of social media.
A 2023 study published in The Sydney Morning Herald found that “nearly 40% of Australians feel lonelier now than they did five years ago, with social media often contributing to feelings of disconnection.”
Celestial DND provides an antidote to this isolation. For as little as $33 per three-hour session, players can immerse themselves in a magical world, forge new friendships, and experience the joy of collaborative storytelling.
What’s Next?
Celestial DND campaigns begin on 13 January 2025 for Group A and 20 January for Group B. Players will also have the chance to meet in Brisbane for an in-person finale, bringing the adventure full circle.
